Creating a Bootable Pen Drive

Required:

    * USB Flash Drive (4GB+)
    * Microsoft OS Disk (Vista / Windows 7)
    * A computer Running Vista / Windows 7

Step 1: Format the Drive
The steps here are to use the command line to format the disk properly using the diskpart utility.
[Be warned: this will erase everything on your drive. Be careful.]

   1. Plug in your USB Flash Drive and format it by right click>format (use files system>NTFS) ok
   2. Open a command prompt as administrator (Right click on Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt and select “Run as administrator”)
   3. Find the drive number of your USB Drive by typing the following into the Command Prompt window:
      diskpart
      list disk
The number of your USB drive will listed. You’ll need this for the next step.  I’ll assume that the USB flash drive is disk 1.
   4. Format the drive by typing the next instructions into the same window. Replace the number “1” with the number of your disk below.
      select disk 1
      select partition 1
      active
      exit
When that is done you’ll have a formatted USB flash drive ready to be made bootable.

Step 2: Make the Drive Bootable
Next we’ll use the bootsect utility that comes on the Vista or Windows 7 disk to make the flash drive bootable.  In the same command window that you were using in Step 1:

   1. Insert your Windows Vista / 7 DVD into your drive.
   2. Change directory to the DVD’s boot directory where bootsect lives:
      d:
      cd d:\boot
   3. Use bootsect to set the USB as a bootable NTFS drive prepared for a Vista/7 image. I’m assuming that your USB flash drive has been labeled disk G:\ by the computer:
      bootsect /nt60 g:
   4. You can now close the command prompt window, we’re done here.

Step 3: Copy the installation DVD to the USB drive
The easiest way is to use Windows explorer to copy all of the files on your DVD on to the formatted flash drive.  After you’ve copied all of the files the disk you are ready to go.

Step 4: Set your BIOS to boot from USB
This is where you’re on your own since every computer is different. Most BIOS’s allow you to hit a key at boot and select a boot option.

I used these instructions to get my  Acer Aspire 5738G laptop loaded with Windows 7 and it worked fine.

Creating a Windows7/8 Bootable USB Pendrive

If your DVD Drive isn't working or say is not in a mood to work, but you need to format or reinstall the operating system what to do then ?
Here's a simple walkthrough tutorial of creating a bootable USB Pendrive for Windows7 or Windows 8.

Requirement : Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool , 4GB USB Pendrive

Here are the steps shown below:

Installing Windows 8 Consumer Preview with Windows 7

Download the Windows 8 Consumer Preview Edition from here .

You'll see this at the middle of the screen.Download the setup according to you choice. Also note down this product key (another one also written in this tutorial).

Your primary computer is running Windows 7 and you would also like to install Windows 8 Consumer Preview on the same computer but while keeping the old Windows 7 installation intact. How can you do that? I'll be telling you in coming minutes.

To get the real best experience,i would suggest you to install the Windows8 on a separate partition of your computer's hard disk. This will lessen the risk of damaging your previous Windows 7 installation on other partition. You'll be asked at the boot up time as which OS you want to switch on.This is called the dual boot setup.

First of all,you need to have 30 GB free space on a partition for 64-bit Windows Installation or 20GB for 32-bit Installation.I'll also suggest to make a backup of your current important data.

Install Windows 8 on another Partition

Create a physical partition on the hard disk.

  • Search for “Disk Management” in the Windows Search box and choose the one with the description – “Create and format hard disk partitions.”

  • Select the Drive Volume that you want to partition (C: in our case) and choose “Shrink Volume.”

  • Next you need to specify the size of your new Windows 8 partition. For a basic installation, 20 GB (or 20480 MB) should be fine – you need to put this number in the box that says “Enter the amount of space to shrink.”

  • Windows will now create a new “unallocated” volume with a capacity of 20 GB. Right click that volume and choose “New Simple Volume.”

  • Inside the Simple Volume Wizard, leave the volume size at the default value(1), assign a new Drive Letter to this volume and then format the partition using the NTFS format.

The new hard disk partition is now ready to house your copy of Windows 8.Congratulations.

Let’s now install Windows 8 on this new partition. Insert the bootable Windows 8 DVD into the computer’s DVD drive and reboot your computer.
or If your DVD drive is not working, you can try installing with Bootable ISO Pen drive.

If your computer does not boot from the DVD, open the BIOS settings – press F2 or F12 or  the Delete key while booting and one of these keys should work. Switch to the Boot menu in BIOS settings and set CD-ROM as the first device in the boot order.

Save the settings, exit the BIOS and your computer should automatically reboot. It should say “Press any key to boot from CD or DVD..” and when you do that, it should take you straight into the Windows 8 installer. Follow the prompts to install Windows 8 on the new 20 GB partition and if requires a key, just use the following serial number.

NF32V-Q9P3W-7DR7Y-JGWRW-JFCK8

The installation should be complete in about 7-8 minutes. Also, it will ask you an “Choose OS” screen (screenshot) so you can change your default OS or switch to another one with a click.

Comment if you need more walkthrough.

Windows 8 Screenshots Leaked !!

The latest builds of Windows 8 in the hands of developers has resulted in more leaked screenshots, this time showing off the new Advanced Task Manager of the OS. New and improved, the we have two different screenshots displaying two different types of Task Manager. Some believe one is the touch edition, and the other is the standard.
Microsoft is obviously still experimenting with different types of interface for the app, and any of the below versions, a combination of them, or something absolutely new, might be what actually releases with the full version of Windows 8 in 2012.
The first screenshot is the dashboard of the Advanced Task Manager, showing basic CPU, disk load, memory, and network information graphically. The second screenshot is another version of the Task Manager, seemingly touch-friendly, showing a list of programs, users, and start up items. Check them out below:

How to Enable Windows 7 GodMode

Here’s a neat Windows 7 trick that’s been doing the rounds on the Internet. It enables “GodMode,” a term devised by the Microsoft development team, which provides a single place to access all Windows settings without needing to browse options and folders in the Control Panel.
To use it:
  1. Create a new folder.
  2. Rename the folder toGodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
(note that you can change the “GodMode” text, but the following period and code number are essential).
The folder icon will change — double click it to show the GodMode window

The window shows nearly 50 sections with quick links to configuration options. Strictly speaking, it’s not a God Mode since all the options are available elsewhere. It’s more akin to an “all tasks” list — but you may find it easier than stumbling through Windows numerous screens and panels.

Big Red Warning!

The trick appears to work on both the 32 and 64-bit versions of Windows 7. Vista 32-bit and Windows Server 2008 32-bit should also work. However, it is known to crash 64-bit versions of Vista — and you may need to boot in safe mode or to the command line to delete the folder.

Write the Indian Rupee Symbol using Common Windows Fonts

The India Rupee symbol is now part of the official Unicode standardbut for you to type that new currency sign into your favorite wordprocessor or spreadsheet using a regular keyboard, your existing fontsmust be updated to the new standard as well.
There are some font families – like DejaVu fonts- that have been updated to the new Unicode standard and thus includesupport for the new currency symbol but the problem is that these fontshave limited adoption.
Well the good news is that Microsoft has recently updated all thecommon fonts the ship with Windows to include support for the newIndian Rupee symbol. That means you can open a document insideMicrosoft Word (or notepad), select a popular font family like Arial orTimes New Roman, and type the Rupee sign directly.
To get started, you first need to update your existing Windows fonts by installing the kb2496898 hotfixavailable for both Windows Vista and Windows 7. Once installed, thiswill update the Arial.ttf, Times.ttf, Tahoma.ttf and some of the otherfont files on your computer with the latest version.

How to Type the Indian Rupee Symbol using Arial
Launch Microsoft Word, change the document font to Arial or Tahoma, and type 20B9 followed by Alt-x. If the 20b9 string is converted into a Rupee symbol, as in the screenshot above, the update has been successfully applied.

The Microsoft fonts update is available as a free download to anyonewho is running a genuine copy of Windows 7 or Vista. However, if youadd the Rupee symbol to your document and share it with anothercolleague who doesn’t have the latest Windows fonts, they are likely tosee some junk characters in place of the Rupee sign.
A simple solution to this problem is that you create a PDF file ofyour Word document with font embedding enabled and that should preservethe character even if the font is missing.
